American Soldiers vs. Corporation Nation

March 12th, 2010 by superjumpz

Seeking the Truth & Calling for Reform

What You Tolerate Will Dominate

U.S. DOCUMENTS SHOW EMBRACE OF SADDAM HUSSEIN IN EARLY 1980s DESPITE CHEMICAL WEAPONS, EXTERNAL AGGRESSION, HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSES

Fear of Iraq Collapse in Iran-Iraq War Motivated Reagan Administration Support; U.S. Goals Were Access to Oil, Projection of Power, and Protection of Allies; Rumsfeld Failed to Raise Chemical Weapons Issue in Personal Meeting with Saddam when renewing ties, providing intelligence and aid to ensure Iraq would not be defeated by Iran, when he went as a high-level presidential envoy to shake hands with Saddam (20 December 1983)

The U.S. soldiers have been praying earnestly in secret on the front lines of battle that God Almighty would preserve them from destruction, root out out the evil doers in the various theaters of war, and clean house back home in government to bring about sound leadership to execute a proper exit strategy whereby they can eventually return to be with their families.

Their prayers have not gone unheard. Justice, truth, and mercy shall prevail. Judgment shall occur on every side, as “there are no righteous; no not one” (Romans 3:10). Self-righteousness is the downfall of a “hypocritical nation” (Isaiah 10:6). War profiteers too will not escape the judgment of God. Like Enron they too will be exposed and brought to the light.

The love of money is still the root of all evil. When innocent blood is continually and perpetually shed for personal financial gain, you can count on backlash and repercussions. “Whoso sheds man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made He man” (Genesis 9:6).

Is it any surprise that Muslim militants hate America across the world when they know about the mixed-motives behind the war in Iraq? Perhaps this explains why American contract workers compounds have been bombed in Saudi Arabia. By no means do I condone killing on either side. Yet we must be objective and fair when examining the motives behind killings on both sides of the globe.

Not all Muslims are bad people. Many are sincere and loving individuals. Perhaps you should watch the movie Monsier Ibrahim to gain a heart for others in the world for whom Christ died. For those of you who think America is the express representative of Jesus Himself, you might benefit from watching the movie Syriana and some of the short videos mentioned below. That is if you really care to know more than your Corporation Nation tells you by way of their media.

If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. Think of the press as a great keyboard on which the government can play. Joseph Goebbels (German political leader and minister of propaganda 1897-1945)

Most of the energy of political work is devoted to correcting the effects of mismanagement of government. Governments never learn. Only people learn. The power to do good is also the power to do harm. Milton Friedman (Renown Economist)

Seven U.S. Generals have called for Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld to resign. Gulf War Veterans are also against him. Economist Magazine, BBC News, CNN, the NY Times, and Think Progress among others have all covered this supplying me with ample information.

Maj. Gen. Charles H. Swannack Jr., who led troops on the ground in Iraq as recently as 2004 as the commander of the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division, on Thursday became the fifth retired senior general in recent days to call publicly for Mr. Rumsfeld’s ouster. Also Thursday, another retired Army general, Maj. Gen. John Riggs, joined in the fray.

“We need to continue to fight the global war on terror and keep it off our shores,” General Swannack said in a telephone interview. “But I do not believe Secretary Rumsfeld is the right person to fight that war based on his absolute failures in managing the war against Saddam in Iraq.”

CNN is reporting that a fifth retired general is calling for Rumsfeld’s resignation.

“I really believe that we need a new secretary of defense because Secretary Rumsfeld carries way too much baggage with him. Specifically, I feel he has micromanaged the generals who are leading our forces there,” said retired Maj. Gen. Charles Swannack, former commander of the 82nd Airborne Division.

Actually, this may be the sixth general. Generals Newbold, Eaton, Zinni, and Batiste have gained prominent attention in calling for Rumsfeld’s resignation. But another less-noticed general, Ret. Army Gen. John Riggs, told the Washington Post recently:

[Riggs] believes that his peer group is “a pretty closemouthed bunch” but that, even so, his sense is “everyone pretty much thinks Rumsfeld and the bunch around him should be cleared out.”

The 7th General to add to the list is General Wesley Clarke who told an audience in New Hampshire that he would fire Rumsfled on September 26, 2003. Gen. Wesley Clark, told a New Hampshire audience Friday night he had only fired one person in his life. On Saturday he said he wanted to fire a second person: Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld.

When asked at a house party on the Seacoast about what he would do in Iraq if elected president today, he was met with applause when he said, “First of all I would change the Secretary of Defense. Then I would go to the commanders of the ground and go to Iraq myself personally and I would develop an exit strategy that gives us a success and lets us downsize our commitment there.”

Just some final quotes to consider.

Politics is war without bloodshed while war is politics with bloodshed. Mao Zedong (Marxist Leader who established the Soviet Republic of China

Government, like clocks, go from the motion men give them; and as governments are made and moved by men, so by them they are ruined too. Let the people think they govern and they will be governed. William Penn (Founder of Pennsylvania)

It is our true policy to steer clear of permanent alliances with any portion of the foreign world. George Washington (Founding Father & 1st President of the United States)

Facism should more accurately be named corporatism, since it is the merger of state and corporate power. The best blood will at some time get into a fool or a mosquito. Benito Mussolini (Repressive Fascist Dictator of Italy 1922-1943)

Republicans are for both the man and the dollar, but in case of conflict the man before the dollar. Abraham Lincoln (Civil War President that Unified the Nation)

The nation which reposes on the pillow of political confidence, will sooner or later end its political existence in a deadly lethargy. James Madison (President and referred to by many as “The Father of the Constitution.” His opposition to northern financiers led to the formation of the Republican, or Jeffersonian, Party.)

Pray for our nation! We need God’s wisdom like never before!

Vintage Thanksgiving Decorations and Collectibles

March 9th, 2010 by superjumpz

Thanksgiving is an occasion everybody looks forward to. It is a special event when families reunite and friends get together for a meal representative of thankfulness for all the blessings that have come the whole year round. Comparatively, Thanksgiving does not tend to the same level of decorating as Halloween or Christmas, holidays for which decorating has become so much a part of the celebration, but there are still wonderful Thanksgiving decorations to make your home more festive. And some of my favorite decorations are Thanksgiving vintage collectibles.

Most Thanksgiving collectibles tend to revolve around the foods we eat during the season, whether used as images on paper items such as Thanksgiving postcards or decorating food serving items such as trays and dishes. Pumpkins, corn and of course, turkeys are on top of the list.

The popularity of these collectibles is prompted by historic reasons. Originally, Thanksgiving Day is an occasion to symbolize the thankfulness of early American settlers for a bountiful harvest season. Through the years, the occasion has evolved and has become more symbolic in nature. Now, people gather in Thanksgiving to express thankfulness for all the blessings and good tidings accumulated in the past year.

Because the celebration of Thanksgiving revolves around the traditional Thanksgiving dinner, items that symbolize that meal gathering have become the objects that symbolize the occasion. Among the popular collectibles are Thanksgiving mementos made of paper, fabric, and wax; such as cards, tablecloths, and candles. You would also notice that Thanksgiving collectibles are mostly display and dinner pieces, usually ceramic or porcelain. These are collectibles that serve a functional, as well as decorative purpose, especially items like dinner plates, bowls, casseroles, platters, gravy boats and salt and pepper shakers.

In the 1800s and throughout the 20th century, manufacturers have produced Thanksgiving decorations. Most of the vintage items are still very much functional today, though some collectors may prefer to keep them for display purposes only so they’ll be protected from any mishaps. I would hate to spill gravy or wine all over a vintage tablecloth.

Some other popular vintage Thanksgiving collectibles available are soap and food molds. As usual, these items are usable and can be very helpful in making food presentations during the Thanksgiving meal more appropriate, lively and decorative. Vintage candy containers are also readily available online at sites like Ebay. There are many fun turkey-shaped candy containers manufactured during the first half of the 20th century that can add to the Thanksgiving atmosphere.

Great Supervisors Are Assessment Experts

March 8th, 2010 by superjumpz

As a front line representative you’re expected to assess the quality of your own work and make appropriate corrections. Most companies provide a lot of support, guidelines, standards, and monitoring tools to help you make these corrections. As a supervisor assessment is much broader. You’re not only responsible to assessing the quality of the individual transactions, you also must assess the ability and desire of the individuals in your care to accomplish that task. You also need to develop the skill to be able to say where the specific gap is between the actual and expected performance.

It’s not enough to say that a representative did not listen to the customer, you must also be able to explain “how” the conversation failed and what corrective steps should be taken.

It is necessary to be insightful to the point of being judgmental, without expressing that insight in a judgmental tone. You’re a coach now, trying to help a ball player find the “grove” for their swing. Building this level of assessment insight and coaching skills is a lifelong endeavor.

The best training tool for a new supervisor is to watch ten episodes of “Gordon Ramsey’s Kitchen Nightmares” on the BBC channel, back to back. It’s entertainment, but it’s also real life performance management.

Gordon has five days to fix a restaurant that may have been slowly failing for the past five years. On the second or third day of each show he knows precisely whether that particular chef, manager, waitress, owner, or whatever is going to make it or break it.

You need to develop the ability to spot the strengths and weaknesses in each one of your players, coach them to success or cut your losses. Don’t jump into the middle of your team and start swinging a meat axe, develop your skills over time, talk with other leaders and carefully assess your first time through. But realize that you can never succeed if your team doesn’t succeed. Some of them are operating on auto-pilot, they need you and your critical eye to set their compass in the right direction.

T-Shirts Are Everywhere Saying Everything

March 8th, 2010 by superjumpz

I am sitting in the food court of a very busy shopping mall on a Saturday with a pad of paper. What am I doing? Counting how many people are wearing t-shirts, what kind of t-shirt they’re wearing, and about how old they are. This is my 4th Saturday conducting this survey at 4 different malls.

Before I began doing this “t-shirt survey” at the malls here in Dallas, I was expecting about 30-35% of the people would be wearing a t-shirt. Was I ever wrong. I had no idea just how popular t-shirts actually are.

First, who is wearing t-shirts? I counted a total of about 4,000 people over 4 weeks in this survey. In total, about 60-65% were wearing t-shirts – twice my expectations! There was a variance in the age groups. For those under 25-years-old, about 80-85% wore t-shirts. For those 25 to 40 years old, about 60% wore t-shirts. And, for those over 40, about 35% wore t-shirts.

While I expected the younger crowd to be wearing tshirts, what I was not expecting were those ages 35 – 50 wearing them. These are mostly parents, business people, and maybe a couple grandparents. Most of their tshirts were sports or college tshirts, or a brand name like Tommy Hilfiger, Nautica, or Polo – nothing crude of obnoxious.

Second, what kind of t-shirts were they wearing? I rarely saw the same t-shirt twice. There were funny t-shirts, animal t-shirts, Christian t-shirts, patriotic t-shirts, and all kinds of novelty t-shirts. And, I wasn’t surprised to see a few crude or offensive ones in the mix either.

Younger kids, those between 5 and 12-years-old, wore a lot of tshirts. That age bracket was closer to 90%. Most of them had some kind of “cute” picture or slogan (like a Disney tshirt), or something to do with sports. Most teenagers and college students wore tshirts that seem to match up closely with their identity.

More than anything, it became apparent that wearing a tshirt is a way to express oneself. Whether supporting a sports team, a university, or country, people wear tshirts to express themselves and make a statement. But, some people wear them just because it looks good, it’s trendy, and they’re comfortable. The t-shirt industry is a huge business. While I don’t have the exact statistics, it made up 60% of the tops worn at the shopping malls around Dallas, TX over the last 4 weeks.

After arriving back home, what did I do? I went to my dresser, opened the drawer, and counted about 25 t-shirts of my own. I put on my alma mater tshirt and sat down to watch the baseball playoffs.

The New America – Should We Outsource

March 6th, 2010 by superjumpz

If you were to look at many large corporations such as Sprint, Dell, and so on, you would find a number of jobs are outsourced overseas. Outsourcing is nothing new but the trend of global outsourcing has ignited a firestorm of controversy.

North American businesses are increasingly outsourcing business functions to companies outside of the United States. Often this outsourcing is seamless to the outside world. The company maintains control over the processes and results, while certain business functions are quietly conducted in another country. Companies often benefit from reduced operating costs and an eager workforce. For the employees, particularly those in struggling economies, they are afforded higher wages and an increased standard of living.

While this may seem to be a win-win proposition for all, it does not come without its share of naysayers who believe that this practice is further eroding the already shaky North American economy. To understand this controversy, we must look at why companies decide to outsource as well as the type of jobs being outsourced. Companies cite a variety of reasons for outsourcing from lack of qualified, available labor to cost concerns. Unfortunately, while many people in the United States want to work and some actively seek positions, sometimes these individuals are not qualified or unreliable. To the company, this creates a risk of missed deadlines, understaffing and its inherent consequences, under production, and so on.

Cost and competition raise another issue. Businesses around the country are vying for ways to reduce cost while increasing effectiveness and productivity. By using overseas outsourcing, companies are able to save on one of the largest line item expenses in business – human capital. Consider alone the skyrocketing cost of healthcare in the United States. Businesses can spend an additional $8000 – 10,000 per employee, per year on benefits alone. When added to salaries, workers compensation, and operational expenses it is easy to see why global outsourcing becomes an option.

Global outsourcing can also offer competitive advantages. Companies can take advantage of specialized knowledge and emerging technologies by outsourcing certain processes to other countries. In this way a company can hire those leading an industry and leverage that competitive advantage in the marketplace.

The underlying discontent with global outsourcing has to do with wages. In example, outsourcing to countries such as India and Mexico enables companies to pay much lower wages than they would pay North American workers. With an abundance of people in foreign countries interested in making higher North American wages, finding help is never a problem. For instance, a telecommunications company pays a customer service representative in the United States between $20,000 and $30,000 per year on average. If the company were to turn the same job over to someone in another country, they would likely pay between $10,000 and $15,000. For the foreign worker this salary enables them to significantly raise their standard of living while the same salary would be at the poverty level for North Americans. For the company and the overseas worker it is a win-win situation. However, this also means workers in the United States are being forced out of or passed over for jobs – thus the controversy.

American Express was one of the first companies to publicly come under fire for global outsourcing. Dell too has come under attack for basing customer service in India. United States customers complain about the language barrier and lack of service but neither company has suffered the loss of profits as a result of outsourcing.

From the viewpoint of the overseas’ employee, they simply want to make a decent living. With jobs difficult to find in their own country, accepting an outsourced job is a gift from Heaven. These people often make 100% or more of what they could make in their own country, which makes outsourcing highly profitable and very attractive. Obviously, with so much at stake, the outsourced workers are willing to be trained, to follow rules to the tee, to respect authority, and be to work on time, every time.

As you can see, outsourcing overseas is a huge dilemma, with growing concern. When you consider the growing positions being outsourced, the concern rises. Although you might generally think of customer support as being the number one outsourced job, you might be surprised. Below is a list of other jobs that are often outsourced:

• Customer Service – Although this was not one of the original aspects of a business outsourced, we now see a huge number of companies, small to large, using overseas services in all areas of customer support.

• Data Analysis – The amount of data being generated by companies throughout the United States is staggering. In most cases, conducting market analysis and reviewing trends is crucial to a number of industries. For instance, much of the data coming out of the New York Stock Exchange is sent to India where it goes through a complete analysis process.

• Research – Research is also another large area where overseas outsourcing is used. In this case, companies will outsource large or portions of large research projects to people in other countries, which covers everything imaginable such as pharmaceutical trials to genetics to nano stocks.

• Engineering Design – More and more, we see engineering design being outsourced. Typically, companies in the United States establish what is known as an Offshore Development Center or ODC, which includes a number of design fields such as architectural, mechanical, hardware, structural, and product.

• Medicare – Many people are unaware that Medicare is also outsourced to foreign countries. Services provided by employees could include data entry of doctor’s transcripts to interpretation of an MRI, CAT scan, or other medical imaging processes.

• Art and Animation – With different countries offering unique levels and genres of creativity, a company needing a website, illustrations, artwork, book cover design, television show, graphic art, and other similar functions would turn to other countries for fresh ideas

• Legal – Finally, we also see legal support services being outsourced overseas. Although professional services would not be included, we do see some of the more low-level tasks such as data entry of legal documents or transcripts and patent searches being performed.

Although outsourcing to other countries has been done since the early part of the 1990s, it has become a multi-billion dollar business for other countries. Although many of the workers are low skilled, they are again, eager and willing to work. The trend of outsourcing will likely to continue to expand. We often view the negative impact to North American workers but the reality is we too benefit from outsourcing.

Many small businesses provide services to other countries. Writers, web developers, marketing consultants and many others build a business that is largely global. These small businesses are often started by laid off or out placed corporate employees. Other countries outsource to the United States for the same reasons we do – specialized knowledge, lower costs, and qualified labor. Let’s face it the world has changed. The debate over outsourcing is unlikely to subside any time soon, but the rules will continue to be written.

Increase Small Business Sales By Accepting Credit Cards

March 6th, 2010 by superjumpz

If you run a small business or it has not been more than two years, there are chances that you will face obstacles or high costs from the average local bank in getting a merchant account status.

Consider an Independent Sales Organization to increase your small business sales by accepting credit cards. ISOs are representatives from out-of-town banks that help small and home based businesses find banks willing to grant them merchant status. The ISO are able to help small businesses as they represent several banks with their own specialties and criteria. An ISO representative can match your requirements with the profile of the banks that she/he represents, without your going through the application process with all of them.

Once you have obtained a merchant status and in you are with a high quality provider, you can accept all major credit cards including Visa, Master Card, American Express and Discover Card. You can increase your small business sales by accepting credit cards.

Before you sign on with any bank, review the costs carefully and if you do not anticipate many credit-card sales, it might not be worthwhile for you to pay the setup and monthly fees. If you are not sure the costs will benefit your business in the long run being approved for your own merchant account may not be the right thing for you.

Accepting credit cards will increase your sales even if your business is small but with customers coming back to you for your products. You will be the one at loss as not accepting credit cards payments would leave you behind in the competition.

You’re Fired, Tell The Kids Daddy Is A Big Failure, No, Bigger Than That

March 3rd, 2010 by superjumpz

You’re fired, but your kids still think you’re great.

How do you explain to them that Daddy’s a big failure? No, no, son, bigger than that. Daddy’s failure is thhiiiiiiisssss big.

You can’t stand the little urchins looking up at you each morning at breakfast knowing that pretty soon the table won’t be set with fresh squeezed orange juice, buttermilk pancakes, eggs over easy and thick-sliced hickory smoked bacon, pretty soon its going to be cornflakes, then oatmeal, then whatever you can wrest from Spot.

You can’t stand their adoring confident smiles because you know that Daddy’s worked his way up, up, up the corporate ladder over the years, making more money every year for increasingly specialized jobs that only exist in a handful of companies. Worse yet, Daddy has spent the last 15 years supervising other people who were actually more qualified than him, but cost half as much. The corporate hierarchy used to be Daddy’s friend. Now Daddy is competing with those people for his next job. Daddy is in big trouble.

And, Daddy is getting a little older. He needs more sleep, gets less exercise, doesn’t work quite as hard as he used to and even got caught napping for a few seconds in one of those big monthly staff meetings. There was some really humorous good-natured joking about that; except from that woman in HR who wrote a quick little note on her leather bound tablet while Daddy was rubbing the sleep out of his eyes. Soooooo sad, Daddy.

You’ve sent out 1,500 resumes, you conducted 15 phone screenings, you’ve had 3 face-to-face interviews with executive vice presidents that seem to be fourteen years old and just shook their heads and whistled when you said you didn’t really know the difference between social-networking sites, wikis and folksonomies. You seem to be under-qualified for the jobs you really want and over-paid for the job qualifications you match.

You spent $5,000 with a resume marketing service, which your wife said over and over was a waste of money, and a rip off, and if we had $5,000 to waste why couldn’t we just go on vacation this year. You know this harangue is not going to stop until you acknowledge that she was right, but you just can’t bring yourself to admit that you made one more stupid decision on top of all the stupid decisions that got you fired, so you just settle in and get ready to fight about the money every single day until hell freezes over. You’re not going to give her the satisfaction of seeing the fear welling up in your eyes; after all you’re partners.

You don’t want to be paralyzed by fear, but it is starting to feel like that may be part of the problem.

It’s been extremely difficult to even mow the lawn because you just have no energy and now the grass is so high that its going to take twice as long to get through; which just seems twice as aggravating.

You’ve always wanted time to work on your hobbies, publish some articles, write a new book, volunteer at the local hospital, but damn it Oprah worked hard to put together that show on the artful mastery of double lives and you feel an obligation to support her efforts. And, don’t get me started on Maury, although you disagree with his insouciant worldview there is a certain compelling anti-intellectualism to his oeuvre that appeals to your inner child.

You’ve tried to start your own business, many times.

You signed up as a freelance graphics consultant on Guru, but kept getting beat out for the good jobs by that Pakistani graphics designer who only charges $2 a day and promises 2-hour turnaround. You worked as a freelance article writer for a few months, but at $6 for 500 words found out you could make more selling lemonade at the entrance to your cul-de-sac.

You signed up for all the work-at-home, make $1,500 a day from the comfort of your PC, offers, but somehow they all want $500 dollars up front before that final secret to success could possibly be revealed. You did buy the Tony Robbins’ seminar, but again your wife, with her endlessly skeptical comments, probably ruined the magic that Tony carried in like cool rain on your parched expectations.

You even offered to take those online surveys, promising $50 a survey. But the surveys all turn out to be credits toward merchandise you can’t afford if you sign up now for a Caribbean cruise you also can’t afford. You wish you had the $5,000 from the resume service to buy the cruise to shut up your wife so at least you could earn the $50 from the survey.

You finally decided to sell your house, but the bottom dropped out of the market two weeks after you were fired and your ARM is scheduled to pop from 3.5% to 13.5% at the end of the month. Suddenly that class on the consumer price index you blew off at work is starting to look like four hours that would have been well spent.

You now send out five different versions of your resume with five different mission statements and five different salary expectations. It seems like there might be some strong interest from one of the lawn services, but they notice you’re a U.S. citizen and wonder if you’re really prepared to work hard enough to keep up.

You don’t blame yourself, you really don’t. Besides, Tony said that only losers assign blame, winners claim signs, or something like that. I’ll find my notes and see if I wrote that success chant down correctly, damn my handwriting.
